Tomb- Much Information

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay…”  Matthew 28:6 KJV

There’s something about this place.  Even if you’re a skeptic- you’ll have to admit- there’s something about this place…

I am a proud Jesus follower.  I love everything about Him, and I try to emulate Him, as much as possible, but I don’t get overly emotional about every site here in Jerusalem that He supposedly walked upon.  However, when I ducked to enter into the cool, dusky space inside this doorway, I felt His presence.

When I knelt in front of this iron railing and gazed at the space where He may have lain for three days, I wept.  It was very easy to envision Him here.  The feeling was eerily palpable and I am not the only one who has felt it.  Most people agree that they feel this is where the resurrection occurred.

And when they came to a place called Golgotha, which means Place of a Skull… Matt 27:33

Then they brought Him to the place Golgotha, which is translated, Place of a Skull.  Mark 15:22

When they came to the place called The Skull, there they crucified Him and the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left.  Luke 23:33

They took Jesus, therefore, and He went out, bearing His own cross, to the place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha.  John 19:17

Golgotha, or Calvary, was, according to the Gospels, a site immediately outside Jerusalem’s walls where Jesus was crucified. Matthew’s and Mark’s gospels translate the term to mean “place of [the] skull”, in Latin rendered Calvariæ Locus, from which the English word Calvary derives.

I took this picture earlier this week.  Clearly this hillock on the other side of the tomb pictured above, is the Golgotha referred to in all four Gospels. The hill of execution was outside the city walls of Jerusalem, apparently near a road and not far from the sepulcher where Jesus was buried.  The city wall and Damascus Gate, leading into the Arab Quarter of the Old City is just across the road.

Ancient Damascus Gate taken from an old Judaica postcard; Modern day photograph I took earlier this year.

Okay, so if you’re still with me,  and believe this is the actual tomb where Jesus was laid to rest and rose again on the third day, we’ll continue.

Joseph of Arimathea was, according to all four canonical gospels, the man who assumed responsibility for the burial of Jesus after his crucifixion.

When it was evening, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who was also a disciple of Jesus.  (Matthew 27:57)

Simply described as a rich man and disciple of Jesus, Mark 15:43 says Joseph of Arimathea was also “a respected member of the council, who was  himself looking for the kingdom of God”; and Luke 23:50–56 adds that he “had not consented to their decision and action”.

According to John 19:38, upon hearing of Jesus’ death, this secret disciple of Jesus “asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him permission.” Joseph immediately purchased a linen shroud (Mark 15:46) and proceeded to Golgotha to take the body of Jesus down from the cross. There, according to John 19:39-40, Joseph and Nicodemus took the body and bound it in linen cloths with the spices that Nicodemus had bought. The disciples then conveyed the prepared corpse to a man-made cave hewn from rock in a garden of his house nearby. The Gospel of Matthew alone suggests that this was Joseph’s own tomb (Matthew 27:60). The burial was undertaken speedily, “for the Sabbath was drawing on”.

Jesus Christ or Yeshua HaMashiach (His Hebrew title) ascended to heaven nearly 2000 years ago.  I know it’s a long time and there doesn’t appear to be any conclusive proof.  Or is there?

Enter Ron Wyatt:

Ronald Eldon Wyatt (1933-1999) was a nurse-anesthetist in a hospital in Madison, Tennessee. At the age of 27 he saw a picture in Life Magazine of the Durupinar site in eastern Turkey. It was a large natural, boat-shaped formation. Feverish speculation circulated that this could be the residue of Noah’s Ark.  This image sparked Wyatt’s interest and was the beginning of a long amateur career as a sensationalist pseudo-archaeologist.

Before I continue, let me make my  personal stance clear to the reader.  Although there are many scoffers and debunkers out there, I believe that Ron Wyatt is genuine and that his claims are true.  I have researched all of this thoroughly and have explored many of the places he describes.  God has used ordinary men throughout the ages for His purpose, and I believe Ron was chosen by God to reveal His treasure.  I will leave it to the reader to do their own research.

This link is a great place to start- it will fill in Ron’s background, his love for the Lord, his integrity and several witnesses to his character.   I am disappointed that he died so young, because I would have loved to be able to meet him!

Kevin Fisher, with Ron Wyatt in 1997, Nashville, Tennessee.

Ron was the most humble, God-fearing man I have ever met.  He was not interested in fame or fortune.  He was only interested in doing the Lord’s will.  He made great money as a nurse anesthetist, but gave most of it to this work, including traveling overseas 130 times.  When he would run out of money overseas, he would head back to his job and earn more money to fund his work for the Lord.  He lived in a duplex in Nashville during most of his work, desiring to spend his money working for the Lord, instead of on a beautiful home. In 1977, when the Lord was showing Ron that He had a job for him to do, Ron sold his farm and used that money for this work.  He did not have health or life insurance, as he would give the money he would spent on insurance premiums to the Lord’s work.

Ron Wyatt believed, along with General Gordon, who found this tomb in 1883, and thousands, perhaps millions of others, who have seen it since as religious tourists, that this ancient tomb near the Damascus Gate outside the walled city of Jerusalem, Israel, was where Jesus Christ was crucified, and buried, and rose from the dead after 3 days.  However, Ron also had the unusual belief that as Jesus was hanging on a cross near here, and as he was dying, his blood dripped down through a crack connected with the hole in the rock his cross was anchored in, on a hidden object far below.

Ron answers questions about the results of the blood sample he took from the Ark of the Covenant.  Watch until the end- it’s only 4-1/2 minutes.  He breaks down when he says “it’s the blood of your Messiah”…  You see, the Jews don’t acknowledge Jesus as their savior, as we do.  In fact, they don’t read the New Testament at all, and avoid Isaiah 53 and the crucifixion altogether.  This is why we pray for Jerusalem; that the scales would fall off their eyes.  God has promised them redemption in His Word, but unfortunately, they are a stiff-necked people.  Remember, their 11 day journey from Egypt to the Promised Land (Canaan) took 40 years!

Ron Wyatt died of cancer August 4, 1999 at the age of 66.  His wife Mary Nell, and his two sons Ronny and Danny, accompanied him on many of his excavations.  This link was published by Mary Nell after his death, but appears originally in his newsletter in the fall of 1996.

Wow! I read the article and was very impressed with Ron’s devotion and desire to win others to Yeshua. I don’t really like to get involved in discussions like these but I will say that the idea that the blood of Yeshua dripped down on the Mercy Seat is really beautiful!

Yes, I started studying about Ron Wyatt a couple of years ago and I was so impressed with his humility and love of Yeshua. I spent a few hours in Zedekiah’s caves in May, and the locations of the garden tomb, Golgotha and Jeremiah’s Grotto all are very consistent with his story. I think the reason the Ark could not be revealed is because it would have started World War 3…

So many proofs that God’s Word is true! I love the modern day archeological news that continue to prove our Yeshua is Messiah and that our Bible is true! Thanks to Ron, the Caldwells, and recently Joel Richardson who is publishing his visits to these awesome discoveries of folks who went before him. Thank you Marie for sharing such powerful testimony!!!
