Root Bound

I’m root bound- let me out of this pot.

Oh dear! my limbs are in a knot.

My roots are tangled, my nerves are jangled…

I want to run, but I cannot.

There was a time I had more space

To move around, most any place.

And anywhere I wished to go;

But now I find I cannot grow.

I’m turning brown and wrinkled,

My leaves are dry and crinkled.

I pray that I will live to tell

The story of this root bound hell.

I’m not afraid, my heart is strong.

Healthy change is never wrong.

My mind’s made up, I know the rules.

So hit me with those garden tools!

Hello!  What’s this? A larger bowl?

With room to move, a bigger hole…

Hooray, my freedom’s at the door.

I’ve lots of room to grow once more.

While this is a real tomato plant, my silly ditty is a commentary on the past couple of years.  Anyone else feeling root bound?

Until the apparent distress of my 4′ tomato plants, the greenhouse appeared to function extremely well.

It took nearly four months to see my first red tomato, but after that I was eatin’ good in the ‘hood.

After the tomatoes’ near death by suffocation, I decided to look more closely at my burgeoning pepper plants.

These bad boys definitely needed more leg room!  Big chunks of their root systems stayed behind when I transplanted them.

Heloise Hint:  Cut out the top center section of a 2-1/2 gallon plastic water jug.  Fill with water and deposit your banana peels.  Refill with water as needed.Your plants will thrive!

There was a lot going on at the end of February as we prepared for final inspection.

Bella and I took a road trip to Florida mid-February and came home to power and water.

I went from having 2 sinks and 1 toilet to 6 sinks and 3 toilets.

…and a bathtub!

Playing around with some ideas for that old wooden mantle I found…

…and the chandelier from the Restore in Charlotte- on sale at half price!

I had never seen a 14’ stepladder, but it’s what was needed to hang those last two lighting fixtures.

It’s the moment of truth as Ken prepares to switch on the new lighting fixtures.  All systems are a go!

Last thing before I could call for final inspection was the range hood.  Never done this, but that’s never stopped me before.

I could barely wait for night to fall, so I could take pictures of the house all lit up.

Lots of loose ends and a very long punch list, but I’m ready for my final inspection…

Thanks again, my loyal friends, for riding along with me.  Although there’s lots left to do before I can move in, I must remember the journey is the adventure, not the destination.  Praying success and shalom as you navigate your own individual journeys.  Love and hugs! MH

A work of beauty! You’ve done an amazing job with your original lump of clay and just as our Lord sculpts us into His image (if we are maleable) it is obvious He has directed this project. Looking forward to seeing the next step in the journey. Love from Jerusalem. Andrea
